Tonight the 88^th Annual Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre.  It is definitely a big night for red carpet fashion.  Several ladies decided to go with shades of emerald, blue, metallics, and pastels. Sundial Brands the manufacturer behind famous natural beauty brands such as Nubian Heritage and Shea Moisture is launching a new hair care line called Madame C.J. Walker Beauty Culture for Sephora. This is the line marks the company’s first prestige hair care launch.  According to the press release will consists of four collections that will address the cleansing, treatment and styling needs of all hair textures.        While some were still taking in all the trends from New York Fashion Week here comes London Fashion Week.  The five-day fashion week just wrapped up yesterday.  Some of the biggest trends that we notice are floral prints and bright colors.  Now, of course, we can’t recap all of the collections from the week.  Instead here are some of the collections for each day of action.  Check out which collections made the cut below.

Day 1(2/19/16)

JS Lee Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

Victorian architecture is the main inspiration for this collection.  The clean, crisp lines allow you to focus more on the fine detailing of the pieces. Sometimes, out of the box designs and etc. are not necessary.

Edeline Lee Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

This collection has an overall minimalistic feel with hints of metal. Our favorite pieces would have to red wool trench coats and the cream oversized coat.

Day 2 (2/20/16)

According  to Vogue Runway the designer states,  “I was thinking about 24 hours, what this girl is doing—waking up and being relaxed, going through the day, then to a disco party.”

The inspiration for this collection was based on the ’60s Japanese cult classic Tokyo Drifter. What we appreciate is a diversity of the models that walked the runway.

For this collection, Pugh was all about women in charge with bold pieces such as pantsuits and interesting Hannibal Lecter hockey masks.  The standouts from this collection would have to be the stars featured looks paired with the 40’s victory rolls hairdos.

Day 3 (2/21/16)

Vivienne Westwood Red Label Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

In typical fashion, Westwood gave fashion fans plenty to talk about. This collection has a little bit of everything. To the “patchwork quilt” to plaid features looks the designer did not lack in details.  For the woman who frequently switches her look this collection is for her.

Temperley London Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

Sailor-worthy tattoos, sea creatures, and frogging as found on naval uniforms were the key elements for Temperley London’s Fall 2016 collection.

Day 4 (2/22/16)

Moralioglu was inspired by “1920s shifts, ’30s bias-cut gowns, and’40s tailoring. The Canadian designers manage to combine three decades of fashion without one overshadowing each other. That is definitely not an easy task to say in the least.

Osman Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

           You can miss the poppies influence throughout this collection by the designer.  Given the use of this flower and theme of this collection (Thomas De Quincey in Confessions of an English Opium-Eater), it all manages to flow together without being overkill. Floral is a print that can be overpowering if used in excess.

Day 5(2/23/16)

Mother of Pearl Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

     The Living Room series by English photographer Nick Waplington helps tell the story of this collection.  This collection marks another appearance of floral prints and also includes wearable looks made from high-quality fabrics (silk, and velvet).

Marques' Almeida Autumn/Winter 2016 Ready-To-Wear

         Designer team Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida invite their friends to walked the runway in lieu of the usual models. It really helped to get the collection a more “normal everyday people” feel. The use of pink runway really allowed the viewers to focus even more on the collection.  Although, this wasn’t our favorite collection of the day we appreciate the different approach to their runway show.

 London has left another mark on the fashion week schedule with its fall offerings. Next up is Milan with designers ready to show what they have for this upcoming season.  What did you think so far?         Makeup mistakes happen more often than we would like. They can range from picking out the wrong foundation for your particular skin tone to not changing out your makeup regularly. However, these simple mistakes can be easily fixed. Who better to offer advice than the professionals themselves.  I reached out to several makeup artists to get their personal opinions and I connected with one for her advice. Sidney Soriano is a Certified Makeup Artist.  Here is what she had to say.

1) Choosing the Wrong Foundation

           Most women wear foundation that is too red or too light for them. You can tell by comparing their face to their neck. This is because when women go shopping for their foundation, they try to find a foundation that matches their face. However, the key to matching your foundation is to make sure it matches your chest or arms. Since we like to show skin during summer, our body gets more tan than our faces. Another trick would be to learn what tone your skin is. You can be warm or cool toned. To check, simply hold out your arms in the sun, and see if your veins are green or blue. If they are green, you are warm toned. If they are blue, you are cool toned. This helps narrow down your choices when you are out shopping for your foundation.

2) Incorrect Eyelash Application

                Who doesn't love false lashes?! They can step up your smokey eye to a whole new level! The problem is, not only are they a hassle to apply but right when you finally got the glue to stick, you realize that they make your eyes look lopsided. Simply looking straight into a mirror will not cut it. What I found the most helpful for making sure the lashes are aligned correctly, is to look down into a mirror. You can purchase one of those round mirrors that stand on their own, they are the most helpful. You hold your lashes with your tweezers or hands, whatever works for you, and look down into a mirror. This way, you can align the false lashes with your own lashes. Remember to get the false lashes as close to your lash line as possible!

3) Excessive use of blush

Blush is very fun to apply. It can warm up our face and give us a more fun fresh look. The problem is, blush is meant to look natural. Most women will wear blush that is very pink, purple, or even red. They will also apply blush on most of their cheek, or in a harsh diagonal line. My go-to blush color will always be coral. It works for almost every skin tone. For darker skin tones, a mango color will do. For very fair skin, an apricot blush is best. For olive and tan skin, coral is a must. Now that you know the right color, where do you apply the blush? You apply it under your pupil. How far under? Where your nostrils are. Dip your brush in only one time, shake off the excess, and apply. If you need to, dip your brush a second time. After awhile, you won't need to dip your brush as much because it will already have some from the previous time.

4)Eyeshadow Misuse

Smokey eye can be very complicated. Here is a simpler way to achieve the smokey look. You put a color the same as your eyelid color on your brow bone. The "standout" color goes on your crease. Any color can go on your lid. The most common mistake I see is the crease color blended too high, making your eye look heavier and older. Look in the mirror while you are applying your crease color. If you close your eyes while applying the crease color, you will end up blending it too high. You want the crease color right where you eyeball sinks in. Do not apply too much color, and blend! This will create the smokey or "bedroom eyes" look.
